The Michigan lawmakers at the center of a sex scandal at the Statehouse were forced out by angry colleagues early Friday morning, following hours of heated debate.
Rep. Todd Courser resigned his House seat at 3:12 a.m., according to the Detroit Free-Press, and one hour later Rep. Cindy Gamrat, his colleague with whom he reportedly had an affair, was expelled by the legislature on a 91-12 vote.
The moves came just a day after Courser apologized for the affair, as a 90-minute recording was played for lawmakers in which he asked his staffer to concoct a bizarre cover-up story alleging that he was a drug and porn addict who paid for sex with men.
The expulsion of Gamrat and forced resignation of Courser come one week after House investigators determined both lawmakers had lied about their relationship and their knowledge of the cover-up.

"It's an unfortunate chapter where we're at, but it's time to turn a page and go in a different direction and obviously heal, in my own house and in this body as well," Courser told the Free-Press Friday morning. "It's been hell."

Well they shouldn’t have done that. That’s a problem. But the “cover-up story” is weird.
The affair showed their hypocrisy, but the attempted cover-up scheme was pure slime...they lied to their families and they deceived those they both were elected to represent with their Clinton-est tactics.
'remember a line from John Wayne in "The Cowboys"...something like "I don't hold jail-time against you, but I hate a liar".
I'm not a democrat...where almost anything goes(lie, deceit)as long as the ideology is pushed forward...
With that said, I hope they get right with their faith, and(if possible)their families.
...but this constituent also says....do it some place else.
Goodbye, good riddance....(next).
The problem for both of them is that, they’re of the wrong party to survive the scandal. If they were democrats, their scandal would just be part of the job descriptions.
The scummy thing is that he told his staffer that he was a gay sex addict!! Hope the seats will be held by CONSERVATIVES!!
Ha!!
re: the poll is suspect.
Yeah, I suspect the numbers might be higher since so many people might not answer truthfully.
I could care less what anybody else does with their genitalia (as long as the other party, if any, is a consenting adult).
I have ZERO tolerance for lies, theft and/or coverups regardless of purity or party, particularly in an elected official. The day we start excusing behavior like this -and I don’t mean the sex, I mean the dumb lies- we’re no better than the opposition regardless of the Godliness of what we SAY or the reverence for the Constitution we profess.
I’m surprised it took until #17 for that to be commented on. It makes sense, gay is COOL! He thought he might be able to get away with it.
Interesting. Gamrat’s final bills.
House Bill 4856: Require human fetus images be shown in high school biology classes
Introduced by Rep. Cindy Gamrat (R) on September 9, 2015, to require public high school biology courses to include ultrasound and positron emission tomography (PET) scan images showing the development of an unborn child in the womb.

House Bill 4858: Ban forcing clerics to perform homosexual marriages
Introduced by Rep. Cindy Gamrat (R) on September 9, 2015, to prohibit requiring a religious official to perform or recognize a marriage in violation of his or her conscience or religious beliefs. Probably by coincidence, the bill was introduced shortly after a county clerk in Kentucky was jailed for refusing to issue marriage license for homosexuals following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling whose effect was to mandate that state and local governments do this.

I didn’t realize that. I had read that about 40% of married men and 25% of married women had extramarital affairs.
Whatever the true percentage is, I think we should realize that absolute monogamy for everyone is not a realistic assumption because of the power of human sexuality.
And male political/social/military leaders throughout history are probably more likely than others to indulge, probably because their perceived celebrity and power makes them more attractive to the opposite sex.
One news report described their involvement together as being a “romance”. A few years back, they said the same thing about Alex Rodriguez and Madonna. Romance had nothing to do with it!
