I'm imagining how the turbulence would cause them to cobble and unless the tow mechanism was instantly detachable they'd all fall down. I have heard of plywood gliders being towed near enemy lines, then allowed to glide over the enemy. Said gliders were full of paratroopers.
Some of the original jet fighters were designed to be dropped from bombers, as were a number of Mach+ prototypes.
Modern fighters are bigger than you think, however, and you still have to return home.
Landing on a carrier is bad enough. I can’t imagine trying to dock with another aircraft.
Perhaps a giant dirigible . . . .
