Once again the double standard is blatant.
Critics of Islam are treated as bigots. A heroine like Ayaan Hirsi Ali who faced death threats for criticizing Islam won't be getting an award, but Rebecca Newberger Goldstein will. Ali is denounced as a bigot, booted off campuses and smeared in the press. Rebecca Newberger Goldstein receives the uncritical acclaim reserved for those who promote the unthinking prejudices of the left.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali writes about Islam, which may not be criticized. Rebecca Newberger Goldstein writes about Orthodox Judaism, which like the more religious forms of Christianity, is an optimal target.
Obviously a big part of the reason that Rebecca Newberger Goldstein will be getting this award is because she is the wife of Obama backer Steven Pinker. Pinker, a fake libertarian, announced that he was voting for Obama because "because he most exemplifies Reason and Free Minds (sorry, the country is in no mood for Freer Markets)".
This administration has certainly been a shining beacon of free minds. Forward!
But Rebecca Newberger Goldstein's career runs the usual course. She got a "genius" grant and a Guggenheim fellowship. The usual signs that the left wants to promote what you're selling.
Getting a National Humanities Medal from Obama is the inevitable next step.
Rebecca Newberger Goldstein will be getting the latest award alongside great minds and organizations like Stephen King and the gutted remains of the hijacked Doris Duke Charitable Foundation which has become the expected funder of left-wing causes while destroying the things that Doris Duke cared about, especially her gardens.
So what is Rebecca Newberger Goldstein getting the National Humanities Medal for?
Well she wrote a book, 36 Arguments for the Existence of God, whose main character is "Cass Seltzer" a psychology professor who writes about how religion is fake. Cass has been described by a reviewer as "in appearance seems remarkably like Cass Sunstein".
So on the one hand we have a woman who risked her life to warn about the threat of Islamic Supremacy. On the other we have a woman who writes a thinly disguised sketch of another Obama crony while mocking Judaism. One is married to an Obama supporter, the other to an Obama critic.
Not a big surprise which one gets the award.
There are some creeds that may not be mocked and some that must be mocked. Mocking Islam gets you death threats and condemnations that you provoke violence. Mocking Judaism gets you an award from Obama.
