“Donald Trump on Kentucky clerk: Same-sex marriage the ‘law of the land’”
Hmm.
Trump had to take that position.
His first plank is "We are a nation of laws. Enforce the law (starting with illegal immigration and sanctuary cities)."
It is the law of the land. During the Civil Rights movement, disobeying the law was commonplace. It was considered courageous and principled. Of course, if you violate the law, you must suffer the consequences. It happened with the civil rights demonstrators who were arrested and attacked. It is happening now with Kim Davis.
Is there sufficient opposition to same-sex marriage that the laws can be overturned like segregation laws were during the Civil Rights era? That remains to be seen.
