I would feel more comfortable with my daughter hiking through Spain than just about anywhere else.

What happened to Thiem remains a mystery as well as an isolated incident. Nothing in this article adds to what was known three or four months ago. Sad story.

And here's a look at the plaza where they confidently report she didn't show up, which is interesting even though it also adds nothing to what was known three or four months ago.

Sounds like a soft target for predators and terrorists.

No offense, but Spain hasn’t been ‘safe’ in a general sense for travelers for decades. BTDT. Lots of shady characters all over the place. Stating it’s safer than *other places* doesn’t really say much in itself. If you have daughters, I hope you won’t put your theory to test...for their sake.
