At age 33, Dr. Carson became the youngest physician to ever head a major division at Johns Hopkins. He was the director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions from 1984 until ???.
In addition to being a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatric medicine.
How much of that was affirmative action?
How many people did he manage? Directly? Indirectly?
Most doctors contract with the hospital. The Hospital manages most of the staff, lab, x-ray, and other supporting operations. The doctor manages his own private practice outside of the Hospital and leads a team at the hospital when he does surgery.
I don’t have a clear view of what additional responsibilities being “director of pediatric neurosurgery”
at John Hopkins entailed. It better than no experience. But does it even begin to compare to the kind of experience that Trump, Fiorina, or the governors have had?
