I wanted in on this thread but the battery-operated batons says it all. I enjoyed the laugh at 6 a.m. Mountain.
My father was involved in "clearing off the bridge". The road was lined with horses, and cops with batons....no guns. When the order was given by the commander, the horses were put onto a gallop, the men riding them were swinging batons....when the cops reached the other side of the bridge, it was cleared of everyone...they didn't care which side got their heads busted...the order was clear the bridge....lots of people jumped into the Detroit river, didn't matter if they knew how to swim or not...
He also was involved in labor riots at the Ford plant...a horse and a billy club make for good riot clearing, and the men riding the horses knew what they were doing. My father was also one of the trainers of the horses to see if they would make good mounts for the police...Not all horses made the cut....
