DETROIT (WXYZ) - Police say a 17-year-old remains in the hospital in critical condition after the young father he tried robbing shot him several times.
It happened late Wednesday afternoon near the corner of Warren and Grayton on the city's east side.
Angela Lanier tells 7 Action News her 24-year-old son Joe fired his gun when the teenager tried robbing him while he was sitting in his car. She says he was on the job as an exterminator when the teenager pulled a gun on him for his sunglasses.
Joe Lanier says, "The boy tried to rob me, and I shot him. That's what happened."
He also went on to say, "That's why he's in the hospital and not me."
His mom is interviewed:
"Maybe if you had taught him a little better, to respect other people, & get out here & get a job, it might not have turned out that way for him" "So if your children do not have any felonies, I advise everyone to pack. I pack, my sons pack, & we're all legal; with it."

Oh that reminds me. Mobsteel is on NBCSP. (Detroit based custom car builders)
Crack is one hello of a drug.
Sweet!
He comes into my store once in a while. I remember the first time I realized who he was, I asked him are you Thomas Hearns? With a smirk he responded. Yeah. Why do you want to fight?
The mother quoted is the mom of the shooter, not the perp.
Indeed, you are correct! I have little doubt, though, that what I said applies to the mother of the perpetrator.
That, sir, is one great post.
That doesn’t look like one of Obama’s sons.
More range time, Joe!
Maybe, maybe not. If the victim is willing to take one for the team, a swiss cheese perp is good advertising.
I mentioned on a thread yesterday that I had just finished reading The Deerslayer;
Great. Now read this...

:)
Certainly valid criticisms; I picked it up because one of my children had been assigned it as summer reading for school, and have an interest in the area described (a few hours north of me). I won’t say it is a great book, but I doubt anyone who reads it will ever end up as a victim of a “polar bear” attack.
Early books written about that period had no illusions about the savagery of Indians in dealing with each other; they knew it wasn’t some kind of mental disease brought here by white people. History is being revised by the left, and reading books like that brings me back to a happier time before political correctness...
He shot the perp SEVERAL TIMES and yet he’s still alive? I know of an 11 year old in St. Louis who could give him some pointers.
Good for Joe Lanier...
So if Lanier had terminated the thief then Lanier would be sort of a Natty Bumppoff?
He also went on to say, "That's why he's in the hospital and not me."
“The first rule about fight club is...”
Don't forget, the intended victim was trying to shoot from the confines of a vehicle.......
If you live in the Grosse Pointes and you're smart, if you're coming home from downtown via I-94 at night, you avoid the Harper, Cadieux and Moross exits and continue up to 8 mile.
