I don't thank that is being fair to Trump as this is really not a cut and dry case. It would have been interesting to see how this would have developed if Kathy had simply not signed the document and went ahead and filed it with the county. That way she could have said she was still doing her job but could not in good conscious sign the document. That would have set up a better fight than simply ignoring court orders.
I haven't read what Trump has said but from other threads, it sounds as if he is simply sticking with that we are still a nation of laws and elected officials can't simply pick and chose which laws they like.
The fact that some a-hole judge put this woman in jail is one of the sickest tragedies our 'justice' system could impose considering the judge overrode the deparment's rule as to who could sign the license. He should have just ordered that the deputy clerk's could sign and leave Kathy alone. Even that decision is an imposition on state's rights.
In the end... F*ck the federal government.
Trump does not seem like someone who wants to get into the details. Plus, his background makes it unlikely he could see the world from the viewpoint of a simple woman from Kentucky.
