Donald J. Trump revealed gaps in his mastery of international affairs during a radio interview on Thursday, appearing to mistake the Quds Force, an Iranian military group, for the Kurds, a Middle Eastern people, and growing testy over questions about foreign leaders.
Youre asking me names that I think its somewhat ridiculous, Mr. Trump told Hugh Hewitt, a popular conservative radio show host. As far as the individual players, of course I dont know them. Ive never met them. I havent been, you know, in a position to meet them.
At one point, Mr. Hewitt asked Mr. Trump if he was familiar with Gen. Qassim Suleimani, the shadowy commander of Irans paramilitary Quds Force.
Yes, but go ahead, give me a little, go ahead, tell me, Mr. Trump replied.
He runs the Quds Forces, Mr. Hewitt said.
Yes, O.K., right, Mr. Trump said.
But Mr. Trump seemed to think Mr. Hewitt was referring to the Kurds, a group with its own language and culture.
Mr. Trump asserted that the Kurds, by the way, have been horribly mistreated.
Mr. Hewitt interrupted. No, not the Kurds, the Quds Forces, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Quds Forces.

You do realize that he asked the same questions of the other candidates who have come on his show, right? Why are they "gotcha" questions for Trump if they weren't for the other candidates (other than that Trump looked like a fool in answering)?
Did Obama get questions like this in 2007?
I doubt he could have answered these questions back then.....maybe not even now!
Anyone who has paid the slightest bit of attention to the Middle East for the past 30+ years should know who the Quds force is. They’ve been around since the Iranian revolution, and have been responsible for nearly all of Iran’s overseas activities (read: terrorism) since then. Asking about them is not a “gotcha” question, and confusing them with the Kurds doesn’t really show a level of understanding that a President should have.
LOL, that’s right! I’m on Karl Rove’s payroll! I don’t worship at the alter of Trump’s cult of personality so I must work for the GOP establishment. I’m stupid and Trump is terrific.
Before he was prepped by his staff for the interview did Hewitt have any idea who Qassim Suleimani was?
I said nothing about the content of the questions that Hugh Hewitt asked, other then he made a fool out of himself. . Hugh Hewitt is part and parcel for the GOP(e) Washington Cabal. Actually I believe Trump handled his answer quite well!!! I wonder if Hewitt would have asked the same questions of Jeb Bush, Rick Perry, Jim Gilmore, Rand Paul, etc. I can only tell you....that Trump will gain supporters....not lose them, becasue of people like Hewitt!!!
I am so sick and tired of GOP (e) loudmouths that have controlled Congress in both houses since November, 2014 and, They (McConnell & Boehner) have done nothing but work hand in hand with Obama & Company. We worked so hard to win both houses and we got ‘Zilch” in return. And....we have gotten absolutely nothing concrete in return!!! Democrat or Republican....makes no difference. So....this ex-Republican is willing to bet on Donald Trump!!! ONWARD, Donald Trump!!!
Only when running against their favorite, Obama.
Remember the smarmy little prick reporter who gave Bush II the pop quiz on who was the current head of state for Krapistan? Didn't do him much damage, as I recall, even though the media pimped it for a few days.
I think it is fair to say Trump doesn’t know much about foreign policy. However I don’t remember the NY Times making that case about Barack Obama.
Hewitt gave Walker all the info first, and he STILL didn't answer with specifics.
But glad you're up on them.
And after sounding like a fool in the interview, he goes on to call Hewitt a "third-rate radio announcer". And people say Obama has thin skin lol - and he is criticized mercilessly for it here and among other conservative circles. Yet Trump has Obama beat on this bad attribute. Trump has perhaps the thinnest skin I've ever seen of any wannabe candidate or politician. What a whiner.
Rush just reminded his listeners that when Reagan was hit with a similar ‘gotcha’ question, his response was a gem. To this effect, he said —You know, it is not important if I know who these people are, what is important is that they know who I am.
It is going to be a very long, long four years...
