I believe her main objection is that her name appears on the license since she is the county clerk. A simple solution would be to remove her name and put someone else’s name on them that is willing to follow the unconstitutional ruling by SCOTUS.

She needs to get a lawyer in there who will argue the law. This isn't simply a matter of her being asked to violate her private (and rather widespread) religious beliefs. There is no Kentucky law that permits or even describes marriage as between anything but one man and one woman. There is nothing for her to follow. It's just a local judge ordering her to break the law. This goes to the core of the Supreme Court ruling by "fiat."

I think it would be very instructive. It would be an opportunity for the legislature to meet—and decline to rewrite the statute. Presented that way, the whole thing—now that we're in the age of Trump, and with the threat of jail being thrown around—would play very differently before the public mind.
