Exclusive: RNC Reince to Meet The Donald at Trump Tower to Discuss GOP ‘Loyalty Pledge'
Breitbart ^ | September 2,2015 | Alex Marlow & Stephen K. Bannon

Posted on 09/02/2015 5:22:14 PM PDT by Hojczyk

A source with knowledge of these matters has confirmed to Breitbart News exclusively that RNC Chairman Reince Priebus will meet with Donald Trump “at Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan tomorrow afternoon to discuss the ‘loyalty pledge.'”

Politico reported earlier today that the RNC plans to ask candidates to sign a pledge that they will support whoever is nominated by the Republican Party and not oppose them in the general election. The political magazine speculated that the pledge is designed to “force the front-runner’s [Trump’s] hand”:

The Republican National Committee on Wednesday privately reached out to GOP presidential candidates to ask whether they’d be willing to sign a pledge stating they would not run as an independent candidate in the event they fail to win the Republican nomination in 2016.

The move is an implicit challenge to Trump, who pointedly refused to rule out a third-party run during the first GOP debate. He was the only candidate who declined.

The language of the draft pledge speaks directly to the issue vexing Republicans – the possibility that the billionaire could choose to wage a third party bid if he fails to win the GOP nomination, a prospect that could seriously damage the GOP’s prospects of reclaiming the White House. Tapping into deep anti-establishment animosity among the conservative grassroots, Trump has surged to the lead of the deepest presidential field in recent memory. If Trump were to pull just a fraction of the vote as an independent, write-in or third party candidate, it could be enough to sink the eventual Republican nominee.

The source also tells Breitbart News that requesting candidates to pledge not to run as a third party has been a topic of internal debate at the Republican National Committee for several weeks.

I assume this “loyalty pledge” is reciprocal. If Trump wins the nomination the RNC will fully support him, right?

That little weasel Priebus has a lot of nerve demanding loyalty from the candidates...

Exactly, let the negotiations begin. This is Trump country meaning the Republicans are going to have to negotiate. I find it interesting that Priebus is going to Trump not the other way around.

Trump relishes this situation. He will make the Republicans pay through the nose and knowing Trump there will be weasel clauses in whatever he negotiates. Trump has an army of attorneys and advisors dealing with this. Priebus will be eaten alive. Priebus has no idea what he is getting into.

Whomever wins the nomination will be the de facto head of the party. How weak does a political party have to be to insist on loyalty oaths out of its leadership?

Yep. Home court advantage. “Thank you gentlemen for visiting, I’ll let you know my decision soon”.

Soon in the geological sense of the word.

Is the RNC going to pledge not to pull crap like they did in Mississippi?

I expect Mr. Trump will do the correct thing.

Politely listen to an extremely desperate and sordid proposal, have a few of his most knowledgeable staffers on hand, (who will have already been tasked to research the pros and cons of the anticipated offer) and make his final decision.

I expect all the other Republican POTUS candidates to be standing by at remote locations, with notaries, ready to sign the final negotiated binding political “agreement”, scan it, and email it to Mr. Trump, on secure servers within one hour!

And all the signed documents will all be uploaded within 24 hours, and posted on a public website...for transparency.

ROTFLMAO!

Trump will make a deal...in his favor.

Yes he will.

This is where Trump shines, and he and Priebus will come out smiling and shaking hands.

Everything will look great, until Priebus turns to walk to his car.

Then everyone will see the knife in Priebus's back!

Trump should consider himself grandfathered in to the SC primary, since they changed the rules because of Trump.

He should blow up all this behind the scenes chicanery.

How much is a pledge worth with guys who change the rules mid-stream?

I think he should. He may not be able to be on all 50 states ballots if he changes.

I think that Trump should threaten to skip the next debate. He should hire a hall and invite Cruz, Carson, and Fioriano to have a group discussion. All the networks would cover it and I would bet it would beat the regular debate in viewers.

“How weak does a political party have to be to insist on loyalty oaths out of its leadership?”

Says it all.

A party without principles has to demand oaths in lieu of convictions.

That loyalty wouldn’t be worth the paper it was printed on. The GOP would find a weasel way around it if they didn’t just ignore it all together.

“Will all 16 others support me if I am the nominee?””

He will say “of course”. Would you believe him?

That’s the problem with just reversing the call for loyalty. No, Trumps negotiation demand needs to be something stronger. Not sure what yet but it needs to really hit the GOP should they break it.

I would suggest it’s time to retake the Republican Party itself and force the national guys sitting in Fairfax to start their own party. Start by forcing every single Republican running for any office (state or national) to also sign a pledge....and it’ll be pledge going beyond “acting” Republican....you have to vote and assume all actions required right now, or face retirement in the spring primary period.

I kicked off a message to the Trump folks and told them he should insist that those who want him to sign a pledge, first sign their own pledge to the People and the Constitution....
