Piers is 100% correct on Biden. I think he’s the one candidate on either side who could neutralize Trump.

On a personality basis, Biden has the ability to sit and take Trump’s attacks and bluster them back without damage.

90% of Trump’s appeal right now is this “man’s man” personality that we haven’t seen from a politician in a long time and people are hungering for it. Biden intellectually will have a hard time with Trump, but in body language way, he won’t get steamrolled metaphysically the way guys like Jeb, Scott Walker, Rand, etc are now having done to them.

Yes.

OTOH if Trump (or, perhaps more realistically, Mark Levin) comes up with a pithy explanation of the phrase, “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof,” and Trump is able to hammer that point home in a pithy way, nobody is likely to be able to withstand him, in the primary or the general.

Here’s what I was thinking about when I got up:

Mexico warns Texas not to refuse its immigrants' babies U.S. birth certificates

Well, Mexico, guess what! You have just proved that Mexico does not consider that “its immigrants are “subject to the jurisdiction of” America.

During WWII, theAleutian Islands Campaign was fought over the islands of Attu and Kiska, which the Japanese invaded simultaneously with their attack on Midway in June, 1942. That, I suppose, was the last time that a foreign power occupied American soil. Acquiring US citizenship was the last thing on the minds of the Japanese at the time, of course - but in principle they could have taken pregnant Japanese women to Attu or Kiska, and arranged to have them give birth in America.

It would be completely fatuous to claim that such children would have been Americans, and the 14th Amendment explicitly does not contemplate that result. Mexico obviously considers “its” immigrants, and their children, to be Mexican. If they were “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” they would not be in America - and no one would say they were Americans.

As I say, Trump owns that issue, and the American public agrees with him. If he can get people laughing at the idea that the children of illegal colonizers of the US are “subject to the jurisdiction thereof,” he will probably own the White House as well.
