Abortion is a well thought out decision. It's murder.Yes, abortion is murder. The only difference during this coming Holy Year will be that the priest does not have to go to the Bishop first to forgive this heinous sin.
Our Lord bids us to come unto to Him for forgiveness of all sins, including murder/abortion. His Mercy is so great that He will reconcile even the greatest sinners.

I am beginning to wonder if this Pope even knows basic cathecism.
Priests do not forgive sin, God does. Forgiveness is between God and the penitent. Priests can and always could give absolution to those who committed any sin as long as the penitent shows true remorse, asks for God's forgiveness, and agree to mend their ways and try to sin no more.

In Catholicism, premeditated murder can be forgiven. I thought all sins were forgiven in Christianity if the sinner repents and pays for his sins. Where did I go wrong?? What part of “Go and sin no more” did I miss?

interesting...
I wasn’t aware there was ANY sin practically that God wouldn’t forgive.
So... basically... what this is stating is that prior to this decision.. if a woman who had an abortion and felt horrible about it and sought forgiveness for the evil thing she had done... she was DENIED forgiveness by the catholic church???
I can’t imagine such a thing!

Wasn't the selling of indulgences by the church one of the things that brought about the Reformation?
To: Graybeard58
No priest forgives any sin. Only the one offended - God - can forgive.

So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. “If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.” John 20:21-23

In response to recent revelations that abortion providers are delivering live babies and then killing them, and selling their organs, the pope gave all priests power to absolve women who had an abortion.
No word on whether the pope has declared killing a just-born baby murder.

There is zero evidence that this APOSTOLIC Gift was ever passed on to any Roman Catholic. But with Catholic magic thinking anything can be believed.

It will never register in your catholic mind that paying for your sins is the antithesis of Grace. so ... goodbye.

If you read it, the Pope is giving permission to a SCHISMATIC group. It’s not a new thing for the Church’s priests to forgive abortion, murder or any other sin. This is not that difficult.

Yeah. Priests aren’t the ones we’re supposed to look for any type of forgiveness from.
That’s what Jesus is for.

I think the Pope is downgrading the serious nature of abortion by this action. This is where he deserves criticism. In September the Vatican is going to sign a United Nations document that approves of abortion in the name of reproductive rights.
