Personally i think that the Alaska State Government should have the final say, screw fed gov forcing naming on local landmarks.

The Alaska state government apparently wanted the name change a long time ago.

Here's your history lesson for the day: Mt. McKinley was named well before Alaska petitioned to become a state.

Had they not liked the name then, nobody would have forced them to become a state.
In fact, at the time of statehood, nobody in Alaska gave a rat's ass about the name of the mountain.
