Trump takes Nashville by storm — with one pitch no other candidate would dare use

Although Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump has been stretching out his lead in the polls, he’s still stumping hard and not taking anything for granted.

And a resounding straw poll victory Saturday could mean it’s paying off.

“Normally I wouldn’t say this but I need your frigging vote, do you understand that?” he told a crowd of loyal supporters in Nashville on Saturday.

Imagine Jeb Bush coming out with that? He’d get kicked out of the country club. Hillary Clinton? The feminists would figure out what “frigging” really meant, and get the vapors. Even regular-guy Scott Walker would probably never say it out loud — not into a microphone, anyway.

But Trump made it sound like a winner.

You call it “gutter language” from high atop your ivory tower. It (both versions being discussed here) was a very ordinary word in the ranks of the Allies during the first and second world wars. It was also considered a “mild” exclamatory word to replace another more well known swear word and did NOT carry the connotation of “gutter language.”

Aside from his being anti-war, I don't see the point of the criticisms.

I never understood all the hate directed towards Hawkeye on MASH.

It was a SITCOM, and a very funny one.

The Hawkeye character hated the war because he was a small town civilian doctor and got drafted and sent to Korea. I can totally understand why he hated the war.

I watched MASH as a kid and even I understood that.

Fantasywriter:

That is quite a fantasy you have written up here.

No, what is insanity is sacrificing anything and everything good that America ever was or ever could be to rage against Mexicans. I have come to agree with the bordermania types at this point on closing the border but in spite of single issue fanatics who seem to live, breathe and act only on their despising of Mexicans not because of those fanatics.

God protects drunks, cripples and the USA and not necessarily in that order. He appears to have been on vacation since 2007, but not really.

I get it. You don't like Mexicans and you will take for POTUS any old POS, regardless of his positions or lack thereof on any and all other issues. National defense? Who cares, right? The babies? Let 'em die if the Rump almighty says so (AFTER he is in office, of course). Gun grabbing? Hey, what the heck? The Rump's new anti-Mexican policy will take care of any need for, well, GUNS! You don't think car-jackings and home invasions are perpetrated by anyone other than Mexicans, right?

Not that anyone cares but Social Security and Midicare are rapidly going bankrupt as the Demonrats DENY that there is a problem and "Republicans" like the Rump simply don't give a damn. Do you really believe him when he says he wants to pay more taxes so you can pay less?

If you are sufficiently hysterical over the Mexicans, The Donald is eager to send a few 44 gallon drums of Dr. Feelgood rhetoric to you and, by damn, that should just be enough.

Has anyone seen this guy in church, ANY church, more recently than Obozo? Doesn't matter! He'll make the da*n Mexican gummint pay the whole freight for that new fence. And it is only right! You've been beside yourself with anger over the border for years and years and years and NO ONE paid you lip service. Well The Donald is paying you lip service and that makes you FEEEEEEL soooooo gooooood!

Note that the only other issue you raised was the shameful treatment of our veterans by Obozo's Islamocommunist cadre running the nation. Of course, it would have been no better under Willard.

As to the Rump's language, my purpose was defending a fine Christian gentleman and actual conservative GeronL from the abuse he was getting unjustifiably here from those who ought to know better just because he does not worship The Rump. GeronL and I have, no doubt, differences on the details of our respective theologies but neither of us is into Rump worship.

The Donald wants to be elected? He would do well to do a bit more than read a few issues of conservative publications to learn how to pander to the base. I gave him credit for his immigration position paper and expressed interest in seeing similarly detailed position papers on a LOT of other conservative issues. If he wants my vote, even next November, his billions and his loud boorish mouth don't make him any more likely to get it. He will have to EARN it the old-fashioned way by inspiring confidence as neither Obozo nor Willard did in 2012.

Whatever you may imagine, I am open minded on the Rump but so far. he is showing NOTHING other than on immigration and that is not enough. Most actual conservatives become conservative by THINKING and not by becoming lemmings. I was a Reagan state chair when he challenged the airheaded Feckless Gerald Ford. Like all officeholders and less than most, Reagan made mistakes but I don't remember him attributing media questions from reporterettes to their menstrual cycles much less in public.

If you really, really, really want to see The Donald sworn in as POTUS, hs mouth is his and your worst enemy. I never had reason to be embarrassed by Ronaldus Maximus, a true gentleman. I wonder, if you are honest with yourself and others, if you will be able to say the same of the bordercentric fad of the month.

I am sorry that you are jealous of the fabulous luxuries you imagine are enjoyed by Mexican immigrants but you will probably get over it once the border is closed and you have some chance to ponder abortion, "gay" everything, the state of gummint indoctrination in gummint skewels, RTKBA, the collapse of the US industrial base, tax favoritism for the plutocrats who bribe (by political "contributions") politicians for the immigration non-policy which you reasonably hate, the rebuilding of our Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, the extermination of ISIS and Al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood and Al Fatah, and Palestinian Liberation Organization and the Iranians who are nuking up as you have anti-Mexican temper tantrums, and the rest of conservatism which you are comfortable ignoring.

Wanna disagree? Feel free. Being retired, I have time on my hands and generally give at least as well as I take. Bring it on!

Frankly, playing the gentleman or by Marquis of Queensberry rules has gotten us nowhere in an ever-increasing coarse, feminized and decayed culture. Trump’s bluntness and no bullcrap (what you call “vulgarity”) is frankly refreshing, if only because it speaks truth to power. It’s time someone stood up and called a spade a spade. If he reigns it in, he loses his strength.

It’s unfortunate we never had the chance to elect a Patton as President, because he was similarly a threat to the establishment and wouldn’t have put up with decades of a Cold War with the Soviets or the undermining of our government and culture by the anti-American left.

Come to think of it, Trump very well could echo those characteristics of strength in the Presidency we haven’t had in decades. I think he can teach us how to be unapologetically masculine again.

Patton did it a lot and got away with it, most of the time.

and he was our greatest general and a deeply religious man.

About the third time you falsely accused me of not liking Mexicans I had to stop reading. I don’t indulge false accusations; it only encourages the offender to make more of them.

The Hawkeye character hated the war because he was a small town civilian doctor and got drafted and sent to Korea.

And also, soldiers and civilians were wounded, maimed, and killed.

It's extremely funny; they got a lot of great writers involved.

When I was in law school, I could only afford to see movies in the dollar theater in my neighborhood. Lest anyone get upset with the theaters, they insisted on pairing Patton with MASH. I paid to see Patton again and again but, unfortunately a tiny amount of money went to the MASH folks.

I confess that after seeing the movie MASH, I made it a matter of principle NEVER to see the TV show. I had the definite impression that the MASH crowd on screen were generally not too eager to defeat the North Korean and Red Chinese enemies of our country but rather just to get home and party on! The left's most effective slogan of the early 1970s was: Dare to struggle! Dare to win! (over the USA of course). We satirized them by changing their cherished slogan to: Dare to snuggle! Dare to Sin! A lot of what the New Left was about was the implied promise of morals free sex. Of course, few of them could be credible on that up close.

Alda's entire life is one of unrelieved leftist airheadedness. See most of his cinematic roles and all of his talk show appearances.

Korea was the first war that we did not win in nearly two hundred years. It was in Asia, against some Asians, against the sainted communists during our next war (Vietnam) which became our first outright loss. MASH was a natural for the Hollywood left and they also got to make it into a comedy poking fun at our efforts to resist the inevitable (as they saw it), communization of Asia.

I wish I could give you a more humorous response but I am a bit tired. I had a first cousin (one of my favorites) who was a Marine Corps veteran of Korea. I find little humor in the Korean War or its outcome.

I'd like to see Alan Alda yukking it up over Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath at a convention of armed Korean War veterans with, perhaps, a contingent of North Koreans now suffering under Kim Jong Mentally Ill as the did under his father and grandfather.

There is one consolation. Obozo has not figured out how to arm treasonous Hollywood with nuclear weapons.

Sorry for the gloom and doom. You know I value you above almostal other FReepers. God bless you and yours!

So it’s obvious you would choose Eisenhower’s pet Omar Bradley over Patton. Bradley was offended by Patton’s language. I’d rather have someone with Patton’s instincts fighting for me.

Sorry for the gloom and doom.

Not at all ... it's always interesting to get another perspective. I recall seeing only one movie with Alan Alda; I think it also had Jane Fonda. I went with my mother. She didn't particularly like either of them, but was a fan of some other actor in the same movie. Interviews and so on, I've completely missed.

You're one of my completely most favorites, too! Every time I see your name, I'm grateful that you're still here.

What a mensch!

"Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of men who follow and of the man who leads that gains the victory."

I generally agree with you but do you have any evidence that this lifelong Democrat Trump is anything better than a political panderer on the border issue who talks dirty? Do I really want, out of a field of 17 candidates, the one who wants to discuss Megan Kelly's menstrual periods (if, at her age, she still has them)? That would be a no unless and until Trump takes on more substance at the expense of brainless bombast. For all we know, he is nothing but Willard with a coarser mouth and no track record to be held against him (at least in public office).

All I am asking is that, before people start stampeding off a cliff, we ought to know what his policies are, force him to make promises which can be used to destroy him (a la Bush the Elder's no new taxes) if he is lying. I don't know the Donald personally. From the moment Ronaldus Maximus left the White House, we have witnessed an unrelieved parade of worthless second raters or worse (Slick Willie or Comrade Obozo) as POTUS. I'm looking for quality this time.

When you say Trump might stand up and call a spade a spade, I somehow do not imagine that to be n exercise in masculinity but rather an unacceptable verbal mugging of an impertinent reporter.

Again, Trump is no Patton.

My original post speaks for itself. You need to re-read it.

But for the record, my comments are not directed at any particular nationality. They are directed at foreign invaders regardless of country of origin. And it’s not the individuals that I dislike. It is the rank, wholesale, unsustainable state of lawlessness. It is the loss of sovereignty. It is national suicide committed in the name of open borders, a massive uni-party welcome mat rolled out for foreign criminals, and a soccer ball and teddy bear view of the problem.
