Assuming this story is true (and I'll take it with a grain of salt), I don't even think that what he said to the DREAMers represents his true beliefs on the issue, because I'm not sure he HAS any true believes on this (or any) issue. I think he is motivated 100% by attention, by being able to stand in front of a crowd of adoring fans. So, he will say whatever he thinks the people he is talking to want to hear.
Talking to a crowd full of GOP base voters? He'll give 'em some red meat.
Sitting in an interview with an MSM journalist? He'll give 'em some "controversial" statements that generate ratings (and ensure demand for more interviews) Standing in a room with these DREAMers? He'll give them some hope that he's "evolving" on the issue.
