The ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee is launching an investigation into the anti-abortion-rights group that has targeted Planned Parenthood with a series of undercover videos.
Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) sent a letter to the Center for Medical Progress on Thursday, demanding details to show whether the group broke state or federal laws when it secretly recorded videos of Planned Parenthood staff without consent.
The Center, led by the anti-abortion activist David Daleiden, established a fake company to gain entry into clinics and meetings with Planned Parenthood officials — a move that Democrats, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), have blasted as potentially illegal. The group has also been asking for donations as a nonprofit charitable organization for the last two years, which Cummings said contrasts with its current self-identification as a group of citizen journalists.
Cummings warned that if Republican leaders of the committee decide to hold hearings on Planned Parenthood, he will ask Daleiden to testify.
"Any legitimate and balanced congressional investigation must also address your group's role in these activities," Cummings wrote.
The Maryland Democrat launched his probe into the group shortly after the GOP leaders of the House Oversight Committee announced they would be investigating Planned Parenthood.
Nearly a dozen states have already launched investigations into Planned Parenthood, several of which have already ended without finding evidence of wrongdoing.
Several states — including California, where the group is based — have also pledged to investigate the Center for Medical Progress and its staff.
Attorney General Loretta Lynch has pledged the Department of Justice will review all evidence, but declined to say if any formal investigations will take place.

Hey Center for Medical Progress - my suggestion is to treat cummings the way cummings treated all the investigations into F&F, Benghazi, Hillarygate, etc - tell him to piss off.

It is not illegal and they know it. Investigative journalists do it all the time. He is a legitimate journalist and has first amendment rights just like the Washington Compost and the New York Slimes.

His page says “he is unable to reply” to anyone but constituents, but it wouldn’t hurt to let him know many people around the country oppose him and want to see Planned Parenthood stopped and held accountable for the murders of unborn children.
The email couldn’t even be sent, so I’m going to see about contacting his office in another way.
And politicians main concern is why the citizenry is so rebellious.

Since the Republicans are in charge of the House, how can Cummings launch an investigation? The Republicans would first have to authorize it wouldn’t they?

He can send letters and get the media to pretend that there is an investigation. I think that's about as far as it can go.
