I think you are recalling the Marissa Alexander case. It was rather questionable if the shots fired were “warning shots” or an attempt at homicide.
She became a cause celebre of the “black lives matter” crowed who claimed that she was being victimized because she was black. Some good came of it. The Florida mandatory sentencing law was reformed so that people actually firing warning shots would not be railroaded into pleading guilty to avoid 20 years in prison.
