How true. And not only Trump, but his 'ardent supporters'. This could not have been predicted. American Idol elects a President. It is a perfect storm. This is the level of disgust that the gOpee has unleashed. Trump has a reflexive liberal history that rivals Romney in many ways, but Trump gets a pass.
I think it is because anything that smacks of the same old/same old Establishment Uniparty in DC is vomit-inducing to at least a third of the base. This base wants to fundamentally transform the status quo. And Trump is the clear anti-Establishment candidate who would do exactly that. So people have jumped on board and are taking a chance that he'll be more conservative if elected. And I honestly believe most of those choosing Trump in these early polls are not the ardent version, but the reasonable ones who do want to send a message to the gOpee that they want them blown up. No more Kabuki Theatre. No more 'show votes'. No more appeasement.
But I also see many people losing their heads (3 versions) over Trump and marvel at it, can't explain it ...
1) gOpee leaders and their consultants like Rick Wilson and Frank Luntz (hilarity ensues);
2) FR ardent supporters who liken Donald to Reagan, Churchill, Batman, Jesus(?!) (C'mon Man!); and
3) and the FReepers who overreact to the FReepers in category #2. Relax. The cream will rise to the top. It is a marathon, not a sprint. Cruz will win if he makes his case in his way. And if not ... President Trump would be infinitely better than Jeb or Hillary.
Trump is a "personality" and therefore has some similarities to candidates like that. However, there is also substance and accomplishment. And as CEW has pointed out, nowadays the POTUS is more about vision and leadership and getting out of the way of those who will execute the plan you set.
Ted Cruz is my guy, but I am not fearful of a pissed-off and fed-up base electing Trump instead.
:-)
Hyperbole is not uncommon here, and there is often as much adulation and fanboi stuff for Cruz as for Trump here. He might not have been called Batman, but he's been called all the other superlative names. Lots of Cruz supporters are way over the top, but that doesn't make me think less of him.
As to my statement that Donald was comparable to Churchill, it was pretty good, here it is:
I understand not trusting him, but it is possible we have a personally flawed man as our candidate that is like a Churchill, equally flawed, but in his unique way perfect for that time.
Quite appropriate frankly, and it may not be damning with faint praise, but it sure ain't a ringing endorsement to call a cadidate deeply flawed while appreciating what he's done during this time.
