RUSH: Let's go to the audio sound bites, because this is the next phase of this, and that is this internecine war going on within conservatism.

First up, CNN's Reliable Sources on Sunday morning, Brian Stelter the host, and he brought in Jackie Calmes from the New York Times who wrote this big, long piece last week about how talk radio is steering the Republican Party down the wrong path and everybody's afraid of talk radio. The Republican Party, it's just a shame. Washington was so much better before there was talk radio, Washington was so much better before there was Fox News, and now this has messed everything up.

So she's studying the impact of conservative media on national politics, and to start the discussion, Brian Stelter said...

I totally support Cruz. But if Trump is anywhere near the ticket I would rather stay home.

Do you even have a candidate?

My candidate is prominently expressed in every post via my tagline.

Why aren’t you supporting him instead of cutting and pasting talking points from DU?

Firstly, I do support my candidate and I do it often. Secondly, if Donald Trump is too liberal for me, why would you accuse me of an affiliation with DU?

Do you have any idea how incredibly moronic that claim is? Do you even care?

Find a new talking point, n00b. You're making a fool of yourself.

Donald Trump is a lifelong liberal. No conservative should support that for the Republican nomination.

Your/the Cruz build-up is much bigger than any facts or evidence you can produce. He's done nothing but “debate” and talk. In that way he is no different than then Senator Obama...No results to show

You are wrong on every single count. Ted Cruz's “done nothing but debate” actually won quite a few crucial cases before the US Supreme Court as Texas Solicitor General, not to mention Ted Cruz's role in George Bush's win at the Supreme Court that allowed him to become president.

Here's what I care about: Will Trump protect the border.

Will he stop people coming here to have anchor babies... (by incentive not 'stopping' them physically.)

Will Trump use incentives to get illegals to self deport?

If so, he's my guy.

I don't care if he gave money to democrats or if he's 'grown' on issue. The guy's not a politician - he's been a business man. And that's fine with me.

The best and brightest in our country don't go into politics anymore because the political consultant class is 'selecting' who they'll back... and the type they want is 'good looking on TV, fairly easy to manipulate, and doesn't have a strong will - a 'will' that might stop the person from spending millions on TV ads in Florida... the percentage money consultants live on.

The 'incentives for consultants' means they wouldn't have accepted as clients ANY of our great Presidents.

Trump will show other winners they to can run for office with out being bullied by political consultants nannies. "Don't say this - don't say that - play it safe - be shallow and superficial ...."

Trump's a game changer. In a game that must be changed if the country is to survive.

That wasn’t a liberal immigration paper he put out.

Donald Trump has been a liberal all his life, he spouts some conservative positions during a campaign and people fall for it. Do you always believe what a candidate tells you and do you not consider their record? You are free to put your trust in a liberal just as I am free not to.

Trump is working a moderate/conservative coalition.

If you believe Trump's immigration paper is moderate you haven't been paying attention.

I prefer either to liberal/moderate candidates- from both parties.

And I prefer conservative only. I certainly haven't fallen for liberal Donald Trump's ruse.

Considering we have a chance to support the greatest conservative candidate since Reagan (Cruz), the support of Freepers for this charlatan (Trump) is absolutely puzzling.

You’re also not telling...I ask you again, when Ted Cruz says Trump speaks the truth and that he backs Donald Trump...is he lying and misleading you?

Cruz backs Trump,

Another delusional Trumps supporter. Did Cruz drop out of the race???? Why do Freepers like you wish to support a less conservative candidate?

Most conservative candidate, maybe.

But if Cruz were the best conservative candidate, wouldn't he be way out in front?

Since he isn't running out in front, maybe he isn't the best candidate.

QED.

Yeah, uh, Jeff Sessions is a liberal on immigration in your opinion?

Come on. No one can take that seriously.

Well, anyway, be safe.

One can support what Trump is saying but not support him for president. You seem to struggle with that concept.

If that's too deep for you have someone else explain it, I'm done wasting my time on a n00b who lacks a fundamental understanding of what is happening.

Bye.

Cruz is the greatest conservative since Reagan, yet they have fallen for the campaign rhetoric of a lifelong liberal.

I would ask them all to name one liberal they trust. If they can't, why do they trust liberal Donald Trump?

You see? You can talk sense when you try. I support your decision.

Go Trump/Cruz!

Yeah, uh, Jeff Sessions is a liberal on immigration in your opinion?

I never said Trump's immigration plan was liberal; if you believe so please point to where I have. I said Trump is a liberal because he is and I don't trust liberals.

Name one liberal you trust. Just one. And if you can't, why do you trust liberal Donald Trump?

I guess you have been sleeping while the MSM has slimed Cruz at every opportunity. There are too many low information voters even in our side of the spectra who believe the bs. That is why he isn't leading. Saying that he isn''t the best candidate a year before the primaries just because he isn't leading right now, is nothing but short sided thinking.

Sounds like you may be more of a bandwagon observer than a thoughtful conservative voter.

I am enjoying the rabble rousing from Trump, but I'd day the probability of him imploding is somewhere between 95-99%

Yeah, he stands with him against the GOP(e) attacks, but you are making it sound like he supports him on his presidential run, which is absolutely wrong. Like others have said, the last we saw Curz is still a candidate, and will still be around after Trump implodes.
