Kentucky Republicans Disagree with McConnell's Strategy
email | 8/17/2015 | Ken Cuccinelli

It's not just Republicans across the nation who are losing confidence in Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY); it's Republicans in Kentucky too.

SCF recently conducted a poll in the Bluegrass State to see what voters thought about McConnell's leadership.

Nearly half of Republicans in Kentucky (49%) believe that McConnell "has been too willing to make deals with the Democrats" compared to only about a third (35%) who believe he "is reflecting conservative KY values."

But even more telling is the strong opposition to Senator McConnell's decision to fund Planned Parenthood to avoid a fight with President Obama.

Among Republican voters, 60% believe that McConnell should force the president to defund Planned Parenthood using a "must-pass" appropriations bill compared to only 19% who believe he should try to persuade the president to sign separate legislation to defund the organization.

It's no wonder Republicans are losing confidence in him at home. He promised them he would fight the president's agenda during the campaign last year, but now he's doing exactly the opposite.

Now, if you're wondering what Kentucky Republicans think about the risk of a government slow-down in fighting to defund Planned Parenthood (McConnell's go-to excuse for surrendering), we tested that too.

Only 17% of Republicans agree with McConnell that a partial government slow-down should be avoided at all costs while a whopping 63% believe that it would be worth it to defund Planned Parenthood.

That is a major rejection of his current strategy!

This survey of 700 Republicans was conducted August 2-3, 2015 and has a margin of error of +/- 3.7%.

These numbers have Senator McConnell very worried because he knows that once voters see through his excuses and lose confidence in his leadership, it's very hard to restore it.

After blocking the amendment to defund Planned Parenthood offered to the highway bill by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), McConnell was forced to stage a "show vote" on the matter to stop his political bleeding at home.

The show vote may have given him some political cover, but he will pay a heavy price in September if he forces the Senate to pass a "continuing resolution" that funds Planned Parenthood.

There's simply no excuse for it.

Please continue to contact the Senate Republicans over the August break to urge them to oppose all funding for Planned Parenthood, even if they have to filibuster Senator McConnell's bill to do it.

McConnell's strategy?

Exactly what is that? Apparently it's shoving his face as far up Skeeter's bottom as possible. He and Boehner make a perfect pair of janitors to sweep up the dirt that Democrats scatter about.

These two rats are traitors.

McConnell could care less what his constituents think or want. That’s pretty obvious. He represents Washington, not Kentucky.

Three thing the Republicans did wrong in the last 4 years, among many more. That is elect Bonehead as speaker, McConnell as majority leader of Senate, and most of all failed to elect Romney in 2012 and settled for King Obama instead. Republicans never learn.

He represents himself and nothing else, IMO.

A message to Kentucky:

YOU are the voters from Kentucky, YOU make the decisions of who you want to represent YOU...

My question is: Why did YOU put him back in after saying how YOU feel about him?

Now that YOU have put him back in, what happens in the next election? Are YOU going to put him back in AGAIN????

Here’s the best strategy: Kick McConnell out. Let Trump break the news to him.

Pity they didn’t disagree enough to knock him out with the last Primary.

Forget Planned Parenthood. He couldn’t even keep his word to Cruz to not bring up the Crony Bank for re-authorization. That should have been a slam dunk. I am so glad Cruz called him for what he is on the floor of the Senate: a liar!

The people of KY are paying attention

If the Republican Party wants to restore any of its lost credibility, it first needs to get rid of both Boehner and McConnell. They are weak, deceitful, and dishonest. Neither has any business being in a leadership position.

The people of KY were warned - but, chose to re-elect this hack any way. Matt Bevin was an option, but they chose the turtle instead. Now, he’s hurting ALL of us,.

A federal court ruled in the case of former US Senator Frank Church that recalling a US Senator is unconstitutional.

The US Constitution needs to be amended to allow for recalling US Senators.

The good new is, when Boehner, and McConnell cave on the CR, and the debt ceiling, it will add wind to the sails of the anti-establishment presidential candidates.

You are right on. McConnel has not changed. He has been this way long before the last election, yet Kentucky put him back in and the idiot senators reelected him their leader. It is just like it is with McCain, Hatch and other GOPe’s, they get elected, they go back to their liberal ways, BUT, when an election draws near, all of the sudden they spout conservative ideas. And, the idiots from their state just revote them back in.

Yes, and you can’t recall a U.S. Senator.
