WPOP [AM 1410 Hartford CT] made the flip to News/Talk today billed as News Radio 1410 utilizing some programs originating elsewhere in the region and syndication. The new lineup will feature Vinnie Penn from sister 960 WELI New Haven in mornings from 6-10am, the WRKO Boston based Financial Exchange hosted by Barry Armstrong from 10am-12pm, Bloomberg Radio from 12-3pm, Howie Carr from 3-6pm, Mark Levin 6-9pm, and American Now with Meghan McCain from 9pm-12am.
The previous Fox Sports Radio programming will remain in overnights and weekends.
INSTANT INSIGHT: Bloomberg from 12-3pm? Sure looks like a placeholder for someone else. How long until CBS 1080 WTIC announces Rush Limbaugh will no longer air on the station?

Update 8/6: While no change has happened yet at 1410 WPOP, iHeartMedia has indirectly confirmed a change will be taking place. In a press release announcing that WPOP will become the home of the new Hartford Yard Goats minor league baseball team, the station was identified as News Talk 1410AM

10a Financial Exchange
Noon Bloomberg Radio (...for now...Rush later?)
3 p Howie Carr
6 p Mark Levin
9 p Meghan “Daughter of RINO” McCain
12 - 3, Jeff Kuhner WRKO when he goes national... ( Hopefully soon )...
9pm-12am: Meghan McCain “Bottle Blonde Airhead Radio”
Happy that WPOP will do talk radio.
But for Rush, he will stay parked at WTIC AM.
I can’t take more than 30 seconds of Naggin McCain.
Happy to see Mark Levin come to earth radio. Will give my puter a rest at night.
Maybe though they are owned by iHeart (formerly Clear Channel). If WTIC 1080 decides not to renew Rush, he may well wind up on 1410.
In Boston when WRKO decided not to renew Rush—thus giving Kuhner that noon slot, iHeart took their Spanish language WKOX 1430 to talk with Beck, Rush, Hannity etc. That may change next year when Rush’s contract with iHeart/Premiere syndication expires and Rush, if offered a contract at all,
may get “low-balled”...
Listen to Howie Carr for conservative fun
Listen to Levin for a conservative education
Day signal of WPOP:
Night signal of WPOP:
Listening now to the opening act before Rush, Jim Vicevich local conservative talk radio.
When I saw the map of how WTIC AM reaches, it covers all of CT and parts of RI and MA.
Who knows..WRKO was losing money on him and they dumped him. But we’ll see if WTIC (owned by CBS I believe) decides to renew. Smaller markets like Hartford, he may not be as big a liability. WRKO’s ratings were bad and they were losing money because to carry Rush they had to place some ads iHeart was running elsewhere in the lineup.
WTIC may well keep Rush, who knows!
Listen to Rush for he is the “gold standard” of conservative talk.
Indeed and at night WTIC is heard far away, like in Ohio...one time I was attending a minor league ballgame near Youngstown and I was getting WTIC election coverage (a Lieberman primary) on car radio.
WTIC “Traveler’s Insurance Company”...big antenna near or in Farmington, I believe
Yep, because WTIC AM has, the franchise, Ray Donnaway, Jim Vicevich, warmup for Rush, Rush, than Joe D. and Grese For Sports talk. After that, national shows take over unless there is a sports presentation.
If POP is a small station they can’t afford El-Rushbo’s 500 Large a year. My guess is Kuhner will be a lot less than that... And as another poster noted TIC is a 50,000 watt blow torch and Rush loves those, WLS, WJR etc etc...
Yes, now all in Farmington, station and all.
