Berlin (AFP) - Kurdish forces fighting Islamic State (IS) jihadists in northern Iraq have reported being attacked with chemical weapons, the German defence ministry said Thursday.
"We have indications that there was an attack with chemical weapons" against the peshmerga fighters that left many suffering from "respiratory irritation," a ministry spokesman told AFP.
A senior official from the peshmerga told AFP the attack happened two days ago and wounded several dozen fighters.
"Last Tuesday afternoon, peshmerga forces in the Makhmur area 50 kilometres (30 miles) west of the city of Arbil were attacked with Katyusha rockets filled with chlorine," the official said on condition of anonymity.
The defence ministry in Germany, which is providing arms and weapons training to the Kurdish forces, said that "American and Iraqi specialists from Baghdad are on their way to find out what happened".

From the Turks or from ISIS?
What's the difference?
From the Turks or from ISIS?
What’s the difference?
The only difference might be the direction the
rockets come from.
Who knows, I guess since it was the Kurds who got hit there must not be a red line in sight though.
I believe it is time for a single nuclear shot on the primary nuclear base in Iran with orders to ISIS to disappear and concomitant orders to other bad actors in the ME. That first shot should be followed up with five or six small battlefield nukes on ISIS and Hezbollah/Quds bases or concentrations. The time wen we could keep the nukes on a tether is past. A judicious use of them now would perhaps return to the fear of their use which is essentially absent now. Yes nukes. We must put the fear of God and the United States back into the barbarians. Obama, alas, is one of the barbarians.
Why aren’t we arming them?
Not a fricking clue.
They want to fight our enemy, are pro-American, AND they eventually are just looking to live in peace one day - unlike every other faction in the area.
Again, not a clue.
Maybe you just gave the reason why.
