When this escalates to uncontained mob attacks spilling into the suburbs, there will be a short and quite violent push back.
I predict a small group of heavily armed citizens with semi-automatic rifles and plenty of ammunition will engage a large crowd of pillagers and in short order leave 40-60 of them dead. It will then either deescalate or it will go full out.
In the suburbs the ferals must assume that every homeowner has a semi-auto rifle, a 12 gauge shotgun and several high capacity side arms.
