I’m jealous, I always wished I’d learned to play. I took lessons in my old age, but didn’t stick with it as I didn’t want to be another mere chick who could strum a few chords to folkie-style tunes, and I was too old to ever be any better. Anyway, I have always thought that the best guitar players are males, by many miles. The few women who really play, more than just accompany themselves with some chords and strumming, are to me like what was said of women preachers, that it’s not how well they can do it, the wonder is that they can do it at all. There just aren’t any female guitar players, even the cream of them, who can remotely touch the best male guitar players. John McLaughlin is one of my guitar heroes, Al Di Meola is another. His “Malaguena” from his album “Elegant Gypsy” is by far my favorite version. And I love jazz fusion guitar, Weather Report and all that kind of music. Also progressive rock, and bluegrass. I think what I really love is instrumental virtuosity, which isn’t a given in most popular genres of music, therefore it’s impressive when you come across it.

Ha, ha. I’m no virtuoso, that’s for sure. But I never stopped and I started 40 years ago. Got a 6 piece band with three guitars and a sax. We play as a house band for an open mic in a pizza joint. Paid in pizza and beer. Very casual and fun. It’s a nice hobby.

Happy FReeping!
