Reminds me of that Eddie Murray movie where he is driving a bus of funky kids cross country, gets stuck in the mud and spots a local KKK gathering nearby. Rather than freaking out, he asks them to help him push the bus out of the mud.

Everyone has a good time as the bus gets back on the road courtesy of the KKK. Everyone except for them. They get splattered with mud.

I think the movie you’re thinking of is “Bustin’ Loose” with Richard Pryor, 1981. A little different than the somewhat raunchier fare that Richard was usually in. Those movies he an Gene Wilder did were hilarious.
