Actually, Kelly’s “get past Putin” comment in the headline was not specifically directed at Trump. It was explaining why the questions were targeting candidate’s perceived weaknesses, and in fact, some other (Walker, I think) candidate was being discussed at the time.

This is a red-herring argument. The President won't be debating these people, he will be negotiating with them.
Negotiations with Putin will not be held on a stage with moderators challenging the terms and the nation watching.
Which candidate will be a better negotiator with Putin and the Iranian Ayatollahs?
