You were responding to an avowed protectionist. Of course he thinks the EX/IM bank is great. For populist protectionists, conservatism takes a back seat to leftist pro union trade policies.
Protectionism is not pro-union. But policies that help American industry, will probably help unions as well.
Besides I understand most unions have gone global and are no longer interested in protecting American jobs.
But the logical extreme of your position is to off-shore all American jobs and really teach those unions a lesson.
