This issue needs to be settled once and for all since there’s so much disagreement about whether both parents have to be citizens in order for their child to be a natural born citizen. Is one citizen parent enough? If a parent was not born here, but became a naturalized citizen before the child was born, is the child still a NBC? Nobody agrees.

Nobody agrees because a lot of people don't know what they are talking about.

Originally, the Woman became the same citizenship as the Husband when she married. This means that only the father determined citizenship, and indeed, the Latin word for "country" is "Patria" meaning Land of my Father. "Patriotism" is also derived from the root of "Father."

When a woman marries, she not only takes the name of her husband, but his allegiances as well.

Women did not legally acquire the right to pass on citizenship to their children until the Cable act of 1922, and their rights were strengthened with the Women's Citizenship act of 1934.

In 1787, it was entirely on the father. Only the Father's citizenship mattered.

"Only the Father's citizenship mattered."

I wish it was still that way. We wouldn't have Obama!
