I would think a better choice would be. Mary Ann Bickerdyke (Mother Bickerdyke). The chief of all nursing during the civil war she worked wonders for wounded troops and worked tirelessly, as a lawyer, on behalf of veterans after the war. When staff complained to General Sherman about her forceful attitude and behavior, he merely threw up his hands and said, “There’s nothing I can do boys, she ranks me”.
