WASHINGTON (AP) — Backed by the National Rifle Association, the Senate's No. 2 Republican leader introduced legislation Wednesday that would reward states for sending more information about residents with serious mental problems to the federal background check system for firearms purchasers.

As I said earlier, looks like no one in congress will be eligible to possess firearms.

Who decides on who has a “mental problem”? Probably some dimwit LIB psychiatrist, psychologist or social worker will make that decision. Who decides if they have a mental problem”? Since they are malignant LIBs, it is assumed that they do have one...if not more.

I was reading somewhere last year....that if you did really cite people as crazy...the general number of people who would require a facility would total near one million. I think this took into account the homeless nuts in urban areas and most of the bi-polar folks. I don’t think we could afford to lock up these guys.

Who get to determine which people have “serious” mental problems? Obama?

The mentally ill are already in absolute control of one major political party and have strong influence and near control of the other.

This is another piece of "feel good" legislation which will have negligible actual effect so long as the inmates remain in control of the asylum.

Communist Goals (1963) Congressional Record--Appendix, pp. A34-A35 January 10, 1963

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

Cornyn strikes again.

Will the Dept. of Injustice promulgate rules that mandate what type of psychiatric exam everyone must get to purchase a gun?

Can anyone point to the last time Democrats ran to the floor to offer conservative leaning legislation when a serious, or embarrassing issue became public? Every single time an issue like this occurs, the Republicans elevate the issue by assuming they have to do something, and try to outdo the Democrats. In the mean time, the Democrats won’t even vote for cloture on a bill to stop Planned Parenthood from parting-out babies.

Isn’t staunch conservatism now considered a “serious mental problem” by liberals?

Just sayin’. This is how it’s done.

Feeling a little stressed out and depressed because your wife left you or perhaps a loved one died in an auto accident? Better not tell your doctor if you want to keep your guns. This law would discourage anyone from going to their doctor with any minor mental issues.

As one who has my share of PSYs on my transcript, I know that most people who go into phychology/psychiatry, do so to try to figure out what's wrong with themselves.

And these are the people who will tell the government there's something wrong with YOU.

Step 1: Solidify mental illness as a reasonable factor in determining eligibility for gun ownership

Step 2: Declare republicans, Christians, militia types, etc. as mentally ill.

Step 3: Ready the cattle cars

And just think, it was all done with the help of Republicrats and the NRA!!!

The devil is in the details, I need to see the text of the bill. The article described it as incentifying states to share information on people who have been deemed mentally defective by a court or involuntarily committed with NICS. Such individuals are already barred by law from buying guns. I would not object to doing a better job enforcing the current law.

The article also mentions Dylan Roof saying he had never been committed or declared mentally defective, but his family knew he had mental problems. If the bill expands the definition of mentally defective to include outpatients or people whose families have bad feelings about, it must be opposed.

In the end, the only way to protect society from the dangerously mentally ill is to treat them (where possible) or confine them. Preventing them from legally buying guns is little more than a feel good measure as most could obtain guns illegally or use other methods to commit mass murders.

“Tea Party members, turn in your guns now!”

Right, put the IRS in control of acquired data and all TP members are nuts.

Oppositional Defiant Disorder is a childhood disorder that is characterized by negative, defiant, disobedient and often hostile behavior toward adults and authority figures primarily. In order to be diagnosed, the behaviors must occur for at least a period of 6 months.

Although this diagnoses applies to minors, I think it will be extended to adults.
