Kinda like our immigration process is broken.
The problem is not enough “people of color”. It’s not enough people of the RIGHT color, to these activist.
Hint: if you’re a solid techie or coder, you’ll get hired.
But show up all “Thug Life” and speaking in Ebonics. . .
I work for a mid-sized automotive supplier - about 1500 employees. Just hired a black male in an administrative position...a great opportunity with decent pay and terrific benefits. Dude can’t even stay awake at his desk. To be fair, we have plenty of white underperformers too, but IMO the manager who hired Mr. sleepy head did so just to promote diversity. Good for you...now pat yourself on the back while you’re picking up the slack.
It’s race not qualifications that determine who gets a job according to those people.
Are these “leaders” pressing Public Schools for meaningful education, to prepare them for work in High Tech?
Not so good with the rules of grammar, but great with rules of software code?
Until blacks quit looking at a decent education as “acting white,” they will continue to doom their own job prospects.
This might rub people the wrong way, but I hope you get where I’m coming from. I’m just relating my own experiences and that’s all.
In my experience racism is a self fulfilling prophesy.
I’ve been a leader in the tech industry for a lot of years.
I’ve worked with just about every ethnic group on the planet. That includes, Filipino, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indian, Native American, Nigerian, Puerto rican, British, Irish, Scottish, Russian, etc... and yes..African American...
We’ve kidded about each others nationalities before and cultures, but never race... That’s just NOT the way normal people think. We talk about their countries or their customs. And honestly it’s very interesting and very cool.
I’ll never forget working with an engineer that was a Russian Jew that grew up in the Soviet Union. She talked about having to spend summers in Soviet labor camps. That’ll will get your attention.
Except with one of those groups that I mentioned above. Want to guess which?
Which to them race is 99% of what they think about. And they will find any excuse to bring it up. It’s worse than vampire blood thirst. They can’t stop. ..It never stops with them.
It’s so annoying and obnoxious that you don’t want them around.
Not to mention trying to watch every single word you say. Or how you look at them, how you smile,....if they see you and a couple others going to lunch together and they don’t get invited...well that’s an obvious sign of racism.
They make working with them unbearable!!!! Let me say that again.. THEY MAKE IT THAT WAY!!!
Doesn’t take long before you’re going blue in the face wanting to scream, “WILL YOU JUST SHUT UP ABOUT YOUR STUPID RACE!!”

Pretty soon, you don’t want to hire them because you don’t want to deal with all the crap they are going to bring into the office.

I worked in SV for 15 years and I was ALWAYS the minority.
Once they started H1b it just got worse.
If any black candidate has skills in C# or Hadoop, I’m sure these companies would grab them up.
I want more white basketball players...
