The mission of a B-52 is basically a flying dump truck. Boing did such a good job it is difficult to design a flying dump truck that will do it better.

As a nuclear bomber, it is far outclassed by an F-16, F-18, F-15E, F-35 etc. The B-61 nuke is a dial a yield, up to 340 KT yield. We don't have the 26000 pound, 15 megaton bombs anymore. That was the design payload of the B-52

But the Buff is still the one to beat if the mission calls for 60000 pounds of dumb iron bombs scattered across a large area.
