The B-52 Is a very versatile aircraft.
Here's one towing an aircraft carrier.

I knew we had that technology, I just knew it. I’m vindicated at last.

B-52’s don’t make attack runs over targets any more. As you pointed out they couldn’t survive...
They have stand off weapons, ALCM and SRAM, that can hit targets hundred of miles away.

This is not your Father’s B-52. The old dog has new tricks up its sleeve.
To: tet68
These are not 1952 bombers, these are more like the old dog and are not to be trifled with. Dale Brown reference...The mission of a B-52 is basically a flying dump truck. Boing did such a good job it is difficult to design a flying dump truck that will do it better.
As a nuclear bomber, it is far outclassed by an F-16, F-18, F-15E, F-35 etc. The B-61 nuke is a dial a yield, up to 340 KT yield. We don't have the 26000 pound, 15 megaton bombs anymore. That was the design payload of the B-52
But the Buff is still the one to beat if the mission calls for 60000 pounds of dumb iron bombs scattered across a large area.

I flew B-52s, 25 years ago, and never flew a bird younger than I was. . .Even the NEWEST B-52s were delivered in FY 63.
I know of at LEAST one family that has had 4 generations flying B-52s. . .

How true. Exceptionally good comment.

Been better if the proved their usefulness by sending a couple squadrons to DC, Baltimore, NYC, LA, SF etc.

That is so awesome. I used to fly its older brother 25 years ago. Our missions were for fun though taking veterans for flights. I’m sure yours were a little bit more serious.

#19 General "Buck" Turgidson: If the pilot's good, see, I mean if he's reeeally sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low... oh you oughta see it sometime. It's a sight. A big plane like a '52... varrrooom! Its jet exhaust... frying chickens in the barnyard!
