If the cop was “preparing to shoot him”, it was because he was refusing to remove his hand from his pocket and thereby actinf in a threatening manner. If the idiot showed his hand so the officer didn’t have to worry about him drawing a gun and killing him, any thoughts the cop had that he might be forced to shoot would have gone away.
Legally, the officer could have given him a firmer command and if he continued to refuse to show his hand, he could have aimed his gun at him and if he continued to to refuse, he could have shot him.
The officer used a fairly low level of force and did not escalate the situation despite the idiot’s dangerous behavior.
The law, common courtesy and common sense all say that if a cop wants to see your hands you show them, period. If you think the initial encounter was unjustified, file a complaint or lawsuit. Deviate from this legal requirement and wise behavior at your own risk.
Your position is as fatuous as blaming the burglary victim because he didn’t lock his doors.
Furthermore, “The law, common
courtesy and common
sense,” are subjects the police are specifically trained to manipulate for the purposes of securing arrests and convictions, and are therefore specious bordering on disingenuous as a guide for dealing with law enforcement.
