Chris Wallace tapped the black three-ring binder resting on the corner of his desk. Ive got some doozies in there, he said, eyebrow raised provocatively.
The unlabeled binder holds the veteran Fox News anchors questions for Thursdays Republican primary debate, for which he will serve as a moderator. Clamped inside it are newspaper clippings, memos to his researcher and outlines of what the hodgepodge of presidential candidates vying to top the GOP field have been saying about the issues and about each other.
It has become a primary-season ritual for Wallace, a fixture at Fox News for more than a decade, to challenge and goad the packed roster of Republican candidates. But this debate in Cleveland, the first of the 2016 election season, may be in a league of its own.
Aside from what Wallace calls the Trump factor Donald Trump, the unpredictable tycoon whose off-the-cuff quips and slams have been roiling the GOP theres the unwieldy size of the field. Of the 17 declared candidates, Fox will allow only the top 10, as determined by five of the most recent national polls, into Thursdays debate.
Theres so doggone many, said Wallace, 67, sitting at his desk in Foxs Washington bureau. The decision to pack the stage was made above his pay grade, he adds. Will [the debate] be as great as it would be if there were three or four candidates? No. But its clear from the polls, people are far from decided.

Rush saying right now, Trump’s poll numbers just keeps going through the roof...
Too funny..
Remember that one TV Station that talked down about Trump? He told their journalist at the next interviews they had their chance and just told the guy no...your done.
This is really looking more like a set up the more I read the Wallaces and other news talking points prior to this.
That would be taking it too far....he needs to be professional as the American people are watching and he has to win more than just those currently following him.
If the debates reach a level of corruption where it became painfully obvious to all, Trump could just walk and put out his own debate video to questions.
He could just use the questions the moderators asked their career candidate insides.
His poll numbers would go off the charts.
At some point he might considering not even participating in this level of business as usual corruption anyway.
I’ve never liked Wallace and I’m liking Megyn Kelly less and less.
Apparenly Mr. Trump DUMPED out on her last night, because I still have her show TIVO’d wherein she stated that Donald Trump would be her guest on her Monday show!
Great - the MSM, which thinks that Trump is a clown and Cruz is a danger, wants to make a circus of the debates - whodathunkit?
It’s really a toss up what Trump will do....He’s a scrapper so I doubt he’ll walk out....but he could just take control when it’s his time regardless of Wallace wanting otherwise...which is what I would do when my turn. Might find the other candidates would as well except this is so scripted I doubt any could ‘freelance’ well enough to carry their points without being prompted....Trump could.
I didn’t know about that...But Kelly’s getting a bigger head the longer she’s in this top spot at Fox. She started out very well but since has become aggressive which shows too often imo. So she’s got to get back to being balanced.
I think Trump likes Kelly but I think he likes Gretta better.
the three doofkateers are drooling at the RATINGS and how to glorify themselves as asking the “take down trump” question.
Wallace is NEVER polite to a Republican like he is to a Democrat. He loves “gotcha” questions, as does Kelly. Am disliking her more and more.I hope Trump unloads on them. He knows a “gotcha” question better than anyone.
Megyn Kelly has a million times more class and smarts than Candy Crowley... or almost any of the democrat ‘moderators/trolls/shills...
Two of the mods are liberals. Flat out. Bret Baer, you can’t tell, and its as it should be.
If I had everybody that was essentially responsible for the spot this country is in, including the press, in one place, I’d probably go after them.
They better be crapping their pants. If the plan is to play grab ass and not ask questions about why a sure fire plan for putting your kids through college for free involves making sure they go to jail, or about how Disney can fire all kinds of people and then hire all kinds of immigrants to take their place, then they better stand by for heavy rolls.
Planned Parenthood is literally carving up children, mostly BLACK children, and selling them to companies to be used in research, and even food products.
The Senate failed to defund it? A Republican Senate? How’s that work? What about the governors? Jeb’s up there, why hasn’t the FSP raided PP? How about Walker, Kasich, PERRY! It’s been going on for a DECADE. A fifth of El Salvador now lives in the US.
Trump could make it rain. Nobody elected him to do anything. He was never charged with the public’s trust. He knows too much about the people he had to deal with in order to get crap done.
Nobody voted for any of the stuff that’s happening now, because most of what’s happening now is being done illegally. Sanctuary cities? Send Troopers from the state capitols to lock up the mayors and city councilmen.
I hope Trump burns the place down.
Oh, I almost forgot:
Chris Wallace’s oldest son works for Blackstone Group. Not middle management either.
Let him come after Trump.
Wallace is a whore, like his daddy was before him.
She's also been practically bouncing up-and-down in her chair when she talks about all the questions they are coming up with in their debate planning meetings. Not too classy there. Now we have Wallace making the same noise.
We'll see what happens during the debates and if they are more interested in personal agendas than asking questions that will benefit the viewers.
Ooh ooh! Can’t wait to hear the doosies he has planned for Jeb and Rubio! ......nah jk
I dopn’t want “doozies”. I want serious policy questions answered in a serious manner. It’s not necessary to play “gotcha” with the candidates.
Softballs to Jeb, doozies to Cruz and Trump.
Wallace is an ass,he should stick to selling his wife’s soup
