I think Trump won't have problems in a multi-person debate forum. First, he's accustomed to being among hi power personalities and believing he's still the number one person in the room. Second, if one of the panelists asks him a stupid question, he just might tell the panelist it's a stupid question, and then talk about what he wants to talk about.
In a true debate, there are winners and losers. It doesn't work that way with the public. The panelists could give Trump a fail on every question, and the public could give him the number one ranking.
