For a 56th birthday present to himself, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-North Carolina) took perhaps the most aggressive step yet against the Republican Party's establishment.
It marked perhaps the most bombastic challenge to House Speaker John Boehner's (R-Ohio) leadership, and another point at which long-simmering tensions within the Republican caucus have exploded out into the open.
Meadows introduced a resolution on Tuesday that aims to force Boehner from his post. The resolution will now be referred to a powerful House committee full of members loyal to Boehner, and has no chance of succeeding. But the message he had attempted to send was clear.
"The House of Representatives, to function effectively, in the service of all citizens of this country, requires the service of a Speaker who will endeavor to follow an orderly and inclusive process without imposing his or her will upon any Member thereof," Meadows wrote in the resolution.
When Republicans took back control of the Senate and gained a bigger majority in the House of Representatives last year, their leaders promised an era of more responsible governance. But as Congress lurches toward a jam-packed legislative schedule this fall, infighting in both the House of Representatives and the Senate threatens that vow.

The GOP is on O2, prognosis not good.
I expect their demise should they nominate a RINO, who will surely lose.
didn’t I read that the Speaker postponed the vote because he didn’t have the votes to defeat the resolution??
I say let it get nasty. The GOPe thugs have been USING conservatives for long enough.
The kenyan intends to destroy the GOP as an effect opposition to the marxist agenda.
The beltway GOP fat cats are too lazy and arrogant to notice they are the frog in the soon to be boiling water.
The GOP destroyed itself on its own. Obama did not need to help them.
Boehner’s - and McConnell’s - approach to differing views has been to try to crush resistance under his oligarch’s heel. Real leadership would have been to take the conservatives into the fold and fight for at least some of the things the American people were promised.
I get that Obama is in office. So what? Make him veto those bills. Make him go on record as acting against the interests of the voters and the country.
I get that an election is just around the corner. So what? The voters backed you guys in 2010 and 2014 to stop at least some of what Obama is doing. Playing dead for him and letting him spend unchecked is going down a road very close to the one that lost you the Congress in 2006.
We are TIRED of excuses, TIRED of being lied to, and TIRED of milquetoast party leadership that is too frightened to do what is right!

It’s not about Obama. McConnell is protecting progressive GOPers who don’t want to govern in a conservative or even country club Republican manner.
Apparently he was going to push it through before recess to “embarrass” Meadows, but he could not be assured it would have been defeated. Whoopsie!!
I think it’s finally put up or shut up time. We either have a reinvigorated Republican Party as Ronald Reagan had wished or we finally break the ties to the GOP and form a national conservative party. The stupid establishment types refuse to accept the fact if it were not for conservatives the Republicans would cease to be a viable, second major political party in this country. Well, I think in short time it will cease to exist, or become a minor party like the Libertarians and the American Independents.
True enough.
Let ‘er rip, I say!!!!!!
No more holding our collective nose to vote.
“Quietly exploded.”
We all know what the “e” in Bo(e)hner’s name stands for: “establishment.” A legend in his own mind.
Obama is doing everything he can to destroy this country and mcconnell and boner are his lapdogs. All three need to be removed and impeached as quckly as possible. The people have no idea how bad things really are. People just want free stuff. This country is on its way down and Greece is just a minor example of what’s going to happen. The trips to space will end very quickly. There will be panic and the great depression will look like such a small event. The people have elected enemies of the state ans leaders. The welfare state will end soon and all the free stuff will end. What’s going on in baltimore will look like a party when the entire county gets into food lines and there is no food.
BI is habitually a liberal rag.
Well-stated message for the statists. Thanks. HOORAY Mark Meadows.
Well, it’s original ...
