Christians need to take part of the blame for the government-related attacks on their faith imo.
More specifically, to the best of my knowledge, some Christians will argue that Jesus' teaching of Matthew 22:18-22, Give to Caesar what is Caesars, ..." means that Christians arent supposed to get involved in government affairs. This is evidenced by so many flag, motherhood, and apple pie" patriots who have evidently never been taught about the federal governments constitutionally limited powers as they should have been.
On the other hand, Acts 22:25-19 shows that Paul sure as heck used his Roman citizenship protections to prevent himself from getting flogged by Roman soldiers.
Regarding Christian business owners who have been harassed and penalized by the state for refusing to provide certain services for gay marriages, I dont see Christians likewise claiming Section 1 of the 14th Amendment which was written in part to specifically protect the abridgment of constitutionally enumerated protections, 1st Amendment religious freedom of religious expression in these cases, from state action.
14th Amendment, Section 1: All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States [emphasis added]; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
Since the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly protect gay agenda issues like gay marriage, the states that are using constitutionally unprotected pro-gay policies to trump the constitutionally enumerated protection of religious expression have violated Section 1 of the 14th Amendment imo.
Again, since some (many?) Christians evidently dont know their constitutional protections well enough, possibly as a consequence of the way some Christians are strictly interpreting church and state-related passages in the Bible, Christians are getting walked on by the states.
