For years, Republican candidates have been assured by their political consultants that amnesty is a runaway hit with the public. Then they always come in for a zinger of a surprise when the American people are finally able to express themselves on the subject. (Sometimes it seems as if political consultants are in the game only to make money.)

We need to reduce legal immigration substantially. We don't need 1.1 million legal immigrants a year. They are draining this country dry, taking American jobs, and depressing wages.

Totally true. W just trashed the Republican party and insulted the base during his second term. His pigheaded amnesty pushing in 2006 and again in 2007 lost the Republican majorities in Congress and paved the way for Barack Obama when prime amnesty pusher Juan McCain lied his way to the nomination in 2008.
But most of the GOPe still haven't learned anything, and the party will make the same mistakes again unless Trump or Cruz becomes the nominee against the will of the RNC. The base hasn't in that past and won't in 2016 support another candidate who cannot be expected to secure the border and begin enforcing immigration for the first time in thirty or more years.

Ann makes the point in her book that most of the same problems exist with "legal" immigrants as with "illegal" ones given the third World hell holes and cultures we are importing these people from. The majority of them end up on welfare and vote Democrat to keep the public money spigot open. They are killing American culture, American moral underpinnings, and norms of legal and moral behavior - not that there is much left of any of that these days, but they are a huge part of the problem. Plus, many of them detest "American values", preferring their home country ones.
Ann says the only way left to save America as a Western Republic with democratic values is seal the borders, eject all illegals, stop birthplace citizenship completely, stop almost all "legal" immigration completely and let those here assimilate if they can. If they can't they can go back home like generations of immigrants did before this one. Also vastly curtain work visas (H1B) for 'skilled' labor which are taking good paying American jobs and in most cases are much cheaper and inferior quality labor and is in reality a form of indentured servitude.
The entire thing is a scam to solidify Democrat power of America forever and change the way we operate to a Third World Democrat Party Machine model, not unlike Venezuela.
Get her book. It is not just a "seal the border" screed. There are real meat and convincing numbers and trends examined there.
Which begs the question: Now that the GOP and their donors are coming to realize WE have another position on the issue, AND we have an alternative to vote for that shares that position...What Will They Do?
They will quadruple down on deceit, obfuscation and direct lies.
