Chris Hayes talks about Texas Senator Ted Cruz's meteoric rise on the American right with NBC News reporter Kasie Hunt and The Texas Tribune's Evan Smith.
>>> good evening from new york. i'm chris hayes . tonight on "all in," it's ted cr cruz 's coming out party. i'll tell you why in a minute he's not just another whackadoo. live to dallas , texas , where ted cruz is about to speak in just a moment. see the big defund obama care banner which lets you know what the event is going to be like. also tonight the terrifying prospect that one result of the bankruptcy of the city of detroit could be the thousands of potential personal bankruptcies caused by the slashing of retirees' pensions. a full discussion on that is coming up. all that plus i am absolutely geeking out a little bit over what i think is the coolest car ever. the tesla. i will tell you why it's so cool but also why it's so important.
>>> but tonight we begin with a man who i believe is the most dangerous politician on the american right. in october 2007 i sat in the media gallery of the united states supreme court and watched the solicitor general of texas argue on behalf of the state that he should have the ability to put to death a mexican national, jose, who had been convicted of raping and murdering two teenage girls in houston. he won that argument and he was executed by texas on august 5th , 2008 , despite the objections of the united nations and the international court of justice . at the time, i had no idea who this man arguing on behalf of texas was. but all i could think was holy crap , this guy is good. it was one of his nine times arguing before the supreme court and he was witty, incredibly fast on his feet and clearly had a brilliant legal mind. it is to this day one of the most impressive displays i have ever seen before the court and i have had the good fortune to spend a lot of time there. so you can imagine my horror in 2012 when i tuned into the texas senate race. i hadn't been paying much attention to. and realized that lieutenant governor david dewhurst , the republican establishment candidate, was being prepared by a tea party candidate who was the same guy i saw kick ass in the supreme court in 2007 . i thought that night, night i made that connection, oh, this is trouble. and trouble that man has been. trouble in every direction. as he vies to be the singular voice of the right wing grassroots and as he has very quickly assumed a leadership role in movement. he's a man who combines the intellectual credentials and pedigree of barack obama , with the raw right wing populist appeal of sarah palin . his full name is rafael edward cruz . he was born in calgary, alberta, in canada . wz we learn this week when he released his birth certificate to the dallas morning news. he's 42 years old. born in canada to an american mother, likely a dual citizen of canada and the united states . something the senator from texas seemed shocked and upset by. late last night in a response to the story revealing the likelihood of him having dual citizenship , "i will renounce any canadian citizenship . nothing against canada , but i'm an american by birth. as a u.s. senator , i believe i should be only an american."[continued]
He faced down pressure from the Bush white house, UN, and international court while finding justice for the victims of a raping, murdering illegal alien. (Not to mention the win for Texas state sovereignty and our national sovereignty).
Making Chris Hayes soil himself with fear was just a bonus.
Nice bonus tho : )
more negative adjectives thrown at a Conservative. Has the media ever described Elizabeth Warren or Hillary Clinton as dangerous????????
“...holy crap, this guy is good”
He is exactly what we need. Please God, as I have asked you before, please let us have this man for president.
I'm convinced they fear him more than any other GOP candidate.
I hate to tell them but I think he will just become even more “dangerous” as time goes by. He seems to learn from everything that goes on around him.
Now they are just pretending he doesn't exist, but he's still there in the background, jumping in when the opportunity presents itself & collecting a ton in donations.
This guy is too smart to go quietly.
I’ve never heard him speak about being a NASCAR fan but he sure seems to run a campaign like a smart driver.
He started on the pole and is running his own race and staying out of trouble. He knows he doesn’t need to lead every lap. Better to save his tires and fuel for that last lap pass for the win.
Whenever a conservative gets a surge, knives come out from the right AND the left. The dragon has two heads, but only one belly.
I’m convinced they fear him more than any other GOP candidate. ................................. BINGO, he’s too knowledgeable and he would scramble Hillary’s brain in a debate. He’s not Lazio, he is dangerous only because he would expose her as the idiot she really is. Of course doing that would incite the media to call him a bully with women. Hell if she can’t handle Cruz, how is she going to handle the leaders of the other powers? Hillary 2016, a bad choice. Biden 2016 for President, of Ringling Barnum and Baily, he could be the head Clown. Gore 2016? A Dolt. Sadly, we need a Candidate with huge gonads, who won’t put up with the media crap. There are only 2 in the 16 that won’t and its obvious as to who they are.
Cruz is a lot different since he had his meeting with Trump....
Cruz has always been vocal, and he says what he doesn’t like or how things are done that he thinks is wrong....it just seems since the meeting, he has taken the lead, and that probably was the plan and is the plan...
Don’t take anything from what I said other than I have noticed a difference....my opinion....
They no doubt believe their own rhetoric about how latinos will decide the future direction of the nation, and they're really counting on a pasty white guy they know how to handle.
This is weird. Cruz renounced his Canadian citizenship a long time ago.

The lead? Lead of what? In the Senate? I agree, he standing tall in the Senate and he and Rand Paul have been leading the charge in the Planned Parenthood funding issue, but unfortunately it has not helped him in the polls.
The article is from 2013, hence the “flashnack” in the title.
