Well, this is not a new theme, to be sure — elitists have been around since the 1600’s or even earlier — but I have to admit that phrase, “ Cosmopolitan culture against the Bedrock culture”, doesn’t quite hit my meaning. The meaning of the phrase is more cultural, whereas I am talking about those who operate the levers of power.
I too have had a gnawing feeling for a number of years now myself.
The sense that our central government no longer works for the average working person/taxpayer anymore. We are taken for granted.
I see this in a sense that things will never get better because of the way we currently operate. We have run out of road.
We have lost control of our government and how it operates.
The hip Cavaliers versus the prudish, stick-in-the-mud Roundheads, of course! But I think it must go much further back... it's human nature.
Laz, my dear,
You stated, “...elitists have been around since the 1600s or even earlier...”
“Elitists” have been around forever.
Common folk have been fighting against the “elitists” since well before the 1600’s. Many common folk desire for the “elitists” to LEAVE US ALONE and abide by The United States Constitution and its first ten amendments: The Bill of Rights.
The ideals of our founding fathers unfortunately have not come to fruition.
What a shame.
I believe their premise to be what we are all about...
Unfortunately, there is EVIL in this world. There are people who want what we have - er, HAD: FREEDOM.
D*mn. There is so much EVIL in this world.
Way before the 1600’s. They Called themselves “Nobility”. And just because we won a war of independence from them, and influenced others to throw off shackles of the aristocracy, doesn’t mean they just slipped quietly into the night; so sorry, we were wrong.
Their kind have always been with us, and they probably always will be. They will always consider themselves our betters.
