I despise trophy hunters and trophy fishermen

And we despise you too! I notice that this type of self righteousness is usually a very egocentric position rooted in a personal comparison level of acceptableness based on a human's size, beauty, lifespan etc. By that I mean a person who despises another for catching a 1000 pound Black Marlin doesn't show the same contempt for a fisherman who tosses a couple left over bait minnows out on the ground. They are both fish, why should the catching and killing of the Marlin be any more abhorrent than the killing of the minnows? The answer is because of their sizes and lifespans relative to humans. Egocentric individuals perceive anything bigger to be somehow more noble and more valuable.

Why do some people object to cutting down a single 400 year old oak tree when million of acres of corn are cut and harvested every year. Because when compared to a human lifespan 400 years is a long time and there will be another crop of corn next year but other than a comparison to a human lifespan harvesting corn and cutting an oak are exactly the same thing. Why is trapping mice in a cruel, neck breaking device simply to better your life by keeping them out of your pantry any different than shooting elephants that are eating your village's crops? Honestly there is no difference it's just that elephants are large compared to humans and live much longer than mice so it is considered detestable.

Why is it that while observing a beautiful butterfly that you'd never consider harming, you'll stomp a cockroach without a second thought? Again the answer is based in egocentrism; The butterfly is beautiful the cockroach isn't. And so it is with the lion. The lion is both noble and beautiful says the superior egocentrist and we should hate those who kill it. This is VERY similar to the mental illness that possesses liberals and their self righteous views they wish to force on others.
