Even if the 22nd amendment were repealed, it wouldn’t apply to Odumbo, but only to those who come after him (if there are any).

Unlikely. Obama checked out for a while to play golf and such. Now there's the frantic rush to get something done before he leaves office -- to have some kind of "legacy" that people will remember. But he's not really looking to go through all the rigamarole of getting elected again, goofing off again, and looking for a "legacy" again.

And look, he has a lot of people who are loyal to him as the leader of the Democratic party. But believe it or not, not that many people in Washington love him enough to change things to give him another 4 years (or 8 years).
