This is a real opportunity for the Dems to rebrand themselves. They should rename such dinners the Johnson and Johnson Dinners (Andrew and Lyndon B., you know). This would truly capture the spirit of the post-Civil War party, and it can be manipulated in so many ways.

Now will they also “scrub” the Democrat party from the dinner due to its ties to slavery?

Maybe, but they'll start killing us soon if this continues.

Communists have infiltrated our Government and nobody knows or cares.

Yup. Leave it to the DEMONCRATS to scrub from our history the person who WROTE the Declaration of Independence then became an honored president of the United States. Ignore the fact the the slave owners of the time were NOT American citizens, but rather were BRITISH subjects.
Leave it to the DEMONCRATS to scrub from history the name of the general who led at the Battle of New Orleans, even AFTER the peace treaty was signed in Paris, and then became a president of the USA> Communications of the day virtually did not exist, but what the hell?
Next year, at their convention, the Donkey party (an apt name, isn’t it?) will demand the elimination and name of the city that HONORS a former Virginia slave holder. I think his name was George Washington.

They should probably drop having a dinner as 100% of racists at one time or another ate food.

Maybe they could call it the Copperhead Dinner. No, that won’t work.

Perhaps it could be named after Bill Clinton’s favorite President, Grover Cleveland? The Bourbon Democrat who vigorously opposed bimetallism and public assistance programs in a depression? No, that won’t work either.

Maybe it could be the Wilson-Smith Dinner. Oh, perhaps not, given that Wilson banned blacks from civil service positions, screened “Birth of a Nation” in the White House, and did nothing to stop the wave of lynchings or Jim Crow laws int he South. And, he got us into war. Oh, and Al Smith was a leader in the anti-New Deal Liberty League. So strike that idea.

What about the Franklin Roosevelt Dinner? Didn’t he have Marian Anderson perform at the White House? Hmm, but the bit about him not allowing black children into his children’s polio camp, and his refusal to integrate the Armed Forces (civil service was re-integrated by Harding) despite entreaties by the NAACP were not very progressive. And neither was the internment of 100,000 Americans with Japanese surnames. And didn’t he put KKK member Hugo Black on the Supreme Court? And didn’t he keep the Holocaust a secret, even after it was well known within US intelligence circles?

Ughhh... how about Truman-Kennedy? Nobody hates Harry Truman. The Fair Housing Act helped black people, right? And he desegregated the Armed Forces! Yeah, yeah, but then there was the union-busting Taft-Hartley Act, which he not only signed, but actually used against unions! And the “plain-speaking” President had a lot of very nasty things to say about Jewish people and black people in his private letters and even public pronouncements.

Oh, and JFK... well, he wiretapped King and seemed to have a problem with black people in general. What did he really do for them?

Senator Fulbright? Segregationist, yuck. And, forget LBJ, Great Society, Civil Rights Act, and Voting Rights Act notwithstanding.

What about Reagan? He didn’t do anything racist. He was a Democrat at one time, right? OK, we’ve got it: the Reagan-Obama Dinner!

Don’t forget that West coast state that will need a new name also. Maybe Denzel should change his name too. In fact since Washington is apparently the only “slaveholder” name that is held by far more black people than white people why not just eliminate the name Washington altogether and let all those black people pick a new name, maybe something PC like, oh, I don’t know...Obama maybe.
