After leaving the University of Pennsylvania in 1968, he was quickly classified as 1-A, available for service in July 1968 and went for a physical that September.
He was "disqualified" at some point after the physical and got a medical deferment in October 1968, the records show....
Trump biographer Wayne Barrett, author of "Trump: The Deals and the Downfall," ...said Trump likely got special treatment as a young man with money and influential family connections.

My dad wasn’t rich, but he was fortunate enough to get one deferment after another until that hellacious war was over. His brother wasn’t as lucky and was drafted. He asked to be assigned to a remote weatherman team in Vietnam. His meteorology classmates all asked to be assigned various other places. Scared my dad and grandparents witless.
He got Australia. They got Vietnam. Several didn’t make it.
I thank God for our troops that served in Vietnam and other wars, but I am grateful my dad was home to help create me.
A minor injury for a foot soldier? Guys were disqualified for flat feet. And many millions of draft age guys obtained student deferments for four or more years.
Lots of folks blabbering about those years who have no clue what they are talking about.

John McCain served his country with honor. The mesure of a Soldier is the sacrifice they give of themselves for others. To that end, John McCain is no friend to his fellow veterans. He has long ago lost touch with normal working class Americans from which most of the generations of our armed forces come.
He may be a hero to the political elite, but no longer to me .

After Obozo and the Clintons and Kerry and Gore, I think anything right of center is good regardless of past sins.
Having read the wikipedia article on Barack Obama, I found it interesting that it didn’t mention Syrian rebels or Benghazi.

My Granddad was Calvary ROTC at UGA. Turned out he had flat feet and the military would not take him for WWII. He was heartbroken. He tried a lot of ways to get in, but once the paperwork was done, he could not and so he served as a civilian doing desk work.

And bone spurs are not an injury, but a growth on a bone, or a calcium deposit. I've known a couple of people who had then and they are not minor. Can make it very difficult to get around until corrected.
Nope, couldn't be a good military man until a bone spur was corrected.

Hey, bone spurs got my first husband ejected from the Navy after they did the surgery to remove them. He couldn’t wear their shoes and they let him go. He was not happy. Had counted on the G.I. bill to help him with college.
We elected a slew of supposedly conservative republicans to congress and the senate these last few elections because they vowed to stop Obama. How is that working out? I would be willing to bet that Trump won’t lie as much for our votes as they did.
Frankly the mind rebels at the pointless sanctimony of the infantile Right.
I know one thing. If Trump was POTUS in
time of conflict and I had a son or daughter
in the military then I would constantly be
in the state of cringe at the thought of
capture.
