As I read it, McCain was being a hotdog and wet started his jet causing the plane behind him to accidentally fire a missile across the deck and drop several bombs at the same time. The ensuing fire burned for several days and nearly sank the Forrestal, 134 sailors died in the incident and 64 more were seriously injured.

McCain has been associated wit responsibility for the event since it happened.

Coincidentally, McCain is the son of one admiral and the grandson of another.

Did McCain ever apologize for killing the 134 sailors on the Forrestal?

McCain’s plane was on the port side of the aircraft with its engines facing out. The plane that fired the rocket, which caused the fire, was on the opposite side of the deck. The two planes were facing each other, at an angle, from opposite sides of the deck. Therefore, McCain’s “wet start” could not have “cooked off” the rocket, since McCain’s engines were pointed in the opposite direction.

Moreover, the Navy found that a power surge causes the rocket to launch.

Moreover, the Navy found that McCain’s aircraft did not drop any bombs.

I’m no McCain fan, but engaging in McCain troofferism is dumb.
