It sure looks that way.
There is no way Graham, for example, can counter this last claim made by McCain. He’s got them dead to rights, which is interesting in light of the response some of the vets had on the issue over the weekend.
This one statement by Trump is something everyone from the top down in AL and VFW leadership must agree with. Vets have come in dead last to immigrants - for years.
The record is long and distinguished. Graham is likely done as a result.
I’ve been involved with AL. It looks like a conservative organization, but it is there for one big reason - protect veteran benefits from Fedzilla. That is all. No exceptions. That’s even how it started in 1917.
If Trump comes out with a plan on protecting vet bennies and overhauling the VA and VA hospital system, then he can call McCain anything he wants to, because the vets will back the guy with the concrete plan to protect bennies.
Trump’s not an idiot. Bennies spent on vets is worth it. Bennies spent on illegal aliens is gas on an inferno. This is something a guy with McCain’s experience in politics should understand. He couldn’t outfight Obola. What makes him think he’s going to prevail against Trump?
Good point. I would believe that DT would make a mistake by making a gaffe. But not repeatedly. Let’s see if the pattern holds:
Step one: make a borderline outrageous or insulting remark. Not so out there that it can’t be explained or walked back a bit.
Step two: wait for media and establishment to take the bait.
Step three: once bait is taken and false outrage is at it’s crescendo, loudly make underlying point that was intended all along. One where there is broad political consensus. E.g illegal aliens causing problems, vets being treated like dirt.
Step four: walk the talk by bringing the folks who are suffering as a result into the fold.
Repeat.
