Mt. Lebanon is lilly white largely because the school board there spends money like drunken sailors, resulting in extremely high property taxes.

Tough enough to bootstrap your way into home ownership as a poor minority without facing a $7000 to $9000 per year property tax bill for the privilege of living in your own home.

White conservatives also got sick of paying that and have moved down the road into Washington County. Hence Mt. Lebanon is filling up with NPR Wine-and-Brie Holier-than-Thou white Liberals.

I assure you they will be the first ones out there holding picket signs and screaming at council meetings when the first Section 8 megaproject in Mt. Lebo is proposed.

I’m in Upper St Clair township (next door to Mt Lebanon). Same demographics. The country club Republicans here squealed when the township approved construction of a Whole Foods in their backyards.

Affordable Housing around these parts? Ain’t gonna happen.
